Rhonda Gunn

Rhonda Gunn

Rhonda's music stands out clearly above the fray with songs where spiritual questions to life's yearnings are posed and given. Rhonda has a unique blend of musical influences from her earthy Native American heritage, to her early soulful influence from a small Arkansas church where she grew up. Much of her highly acclaimed lyrics stem from her love for nature and strong spiritual convictions.

In the early 90's Rhonda began writing songs that reflected her Christian faith and vision. In 1995 she signed with an independent label, Damascus Road Records, headed up by Nashville's Buddy Killen and released her first Christian record produced by Billy Smiley (from the band Whiteheart) and Brian Lenox. The self-penned Forgiveness generated three number one records and five in the top five on the Christian charts - nearly unprecedented for a new independent label artist. Mercy River, the first single release from Forgiveness won Rhonda an ASCAP award for one of the most performed songs of 1997. Her second CD, I Wonder If was released in the spring of 1999 with Billy Smiley and Brian Lenox behind the production board once again and topped the charts with two more number one records and five hit songs.

Rhonda has written songs for other artists including songs for Tanya Tucker, Rita Coolidge, Barbara Mandrell, Barbara Fairchild and Heirloom -just to name a few. She also wrote and recorded a duet with Christian recording artist Dallas Holm the song, When We Worship Him, that went to the number one place on the inspirational charts in 1996.
